Jeffrey C. Kalt, M.D.
A native of the Detroit area, Dr. Jeffrey C. Kalt graduated with multiple honors from Detroit Country Day School. He attended Brown University, graduating in 1983 with honors and membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Dr. Kalt then returned to Detroit to attend medical school at Wayne State University, where he graduated with honors in 1987 and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical society.
Following medical school, Dr. Kalt completed his general medical internship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He completed his Ophthalmology residency program at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center and an additional year of fellowship training in Corneal Surgery at University of Michigan, after which he became certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1993. Since entering private practice in 1992, Dr. Kalt has specialized in Cataract, Cornea, and Laser Refractive Surgery. He also has considerable experience in the medical management and laser treatment of glaucoma and diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Kalt has been on the attending and teaching staff at Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak since 1995, bringing a unique blend of experience in RK/refractive surgery and corneal surgery which very few ophthalmologists possessed at that time. He helped organize the Laser Refractive/LASIK program at the Beaumont Eye Institute, and performed his first procedures in 1996. Dr. Kalt stays on the leading edge of LASIK/Laser Refractive Surgery by continually incorporating the most technologically advanced and safest techniques into his treatment protocols. He was an early adopter of CustomVue LASIK, Advanced Surface Epi-LASIK, Intralase (blade free) LASIK, and “iLASIK”, all to the benefit of thousands of patients.
In the area of cataract surgery, Dr. Kalt served as an instructor for the Beaumont Eye Institute residency program for over ten years. He has been among the earliest to implement such many new successful technologies including; “no-stitch” microsurgery, topical eye drop anesthesia, and multifocal/Extended Depth of Focus lenses such as the PanOptix lens, Symfony lens, and Toric lens implants, and he continues to use the most sophisticated technologies in order to provide his patients with the best possible vision.
Dr. Kalt is the proud father of three boys. He enjoys participating in their various artistic and athletic activities. In addition, he is an avid golfer always looking to improve his game.
Dr. Kalt is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
